Getting scared

Yikes, less than two weeks to go to my deadline, and I'm getting scared. So much to do. My heroine's character development shudders to a halt about half way through and my hero's conflict seems to be all about wanting to get the heroine into bed and having to unravel her resistance. This is clearly no good. I foresee sleepless nights ahead...

Don't worry, Lucy. You can do it! In fact, it's amazing what you can do with a deadline. Is it the whole thing you have to get to them?

That's what I'm counting on.

And yes, it's the whole thing. We'd agreed that I'd send in the first three chapters, but I only did that at the end of April. I find I can't do the whole first draft thing and then go back. I have to hop backwards and forwards. Couldn't bring myself to send in the first three chaps any earlier as they were embarrassingly awful.

But it does mean that my ed hasn't really had time to send me her thoughts. Am working on the 'no news is good news' principle and that had they been totally off beam she'd have got back to me by now...

Love the pic Lucy! And I'm beginning to be thankful that I haven't yet got The Call... don't think I could handle the pressure at the moment :)

But sending positive vibes of a submissive heroine and a very seductively successful hero your way! That's what you need, right?

Am joining Rachael in sending positive thoughts your way. I know you'll do it.

Good luck with licking it into shape Lucy. I'm thinking there's never been a better justification for eating chocolate :-)

Thanks, all. Chocolate has never been needed more. Had an email today and it appears that the 'no news is good news' doesn't apply in my case. My first three chapters (and basically the rest) need to be totally rewritten.

Gawd :-(
Think an inspirational post-it note might be required on your computer along the lines of 'I've done it once so I can do it again!'

:-)

You're kidding me right? Argh, Lucy!! The wonderful world of publishing eh? I'm thinking that I'm with Rach at this point in time. :-)

You'll get there. The difficult second...

To be honest, I feel a bit sick. One hit wonders and all that... Hopefully things will look up in the morning.

Oh Lucy - hugs.

Just wanted to say that I don't think 'one hit wonder' could ever apply - you've got the great voice, you've got the talent and everything else can be worked out, I'm sure.

Hope you're feeling a little less daunted this morning anyway.

I want to echo Lorraine's sentiments. You were snapped up so quickly by M&B because they KNOW you have talent. And I'm sure they'll work with you to make this story as fabulous as the first! Saying that... it probably already sparkles!

:)

Just remember they bought your first book because you're you :-)

Everyone I've ever heard talking about revisions say to read the letter once then don't look at it again for 24 hours, then go slowly through the points one by one.

You can do this! We are all behind you cheering :-)

You are definitely NOT a one hit wonder! You are fabulous, it's just that your story is misbehaving. Keep a bowl of M&Ms by the computer, put your tiara on take another look at those revisions. You can do it!

Lucy at the Romance Roadshow on the weekend, I heard about an M&B author who gets a revision letter, reads it, then goes out and chops wood until she's calm again. Thought that might make you smile.

Lucy, hope you're feeling a bit more positive and that you haven't given up on your story. There are a number of people out here all waiting to read your books.

Phew, it's taken a few days and an alarming amount of wine, but things are looking up! Thanks everyone!
