I spent the weekend brainstorming ideas for a new story and researching personality types on the internet. (How on earth did people ever do research in pre-internet days?) As a result I have an over-achieving PR girl, a lone-wolf business angel but not much of a plot.
I also tried to set up a website but after about half an hour my brain melted.
What did you get up to?

Haha - I have two fabulous new characters too but no real idea of what to do with them (i.e. plot!)
After a series of over-elaborate plots I've finally changed my methods to really think out the emotional conflict before I allow myself to write a word.
I spent my weekend being a hermit type woman and furiously editing my ms to send off to RNA. The end is almost in sight. Be glad to see the back of it really...
Yep Lorraine, conflict first, plot later. Isn't that the way it's supposed to go? Although me, I always have a great beginning idea, which usually involves trying to fit in the conflict around that. Perhaps that's why I'm not published!
Anyway, no plot? Have your characters meet each other and then see what they decide to do. I don't know about yours but mine take on a life of their own and make their decisions seemingly without my help - the idiots!
That happens to me too. My h&h meet with the sketchiest of emotional conflict and then go off and do all sorts of impulsive things which results in me having to go back to fix earlier bits so their behaviour makes sense. Not very efficient, sigh, but I like writing my way into my characters/conflict.

I always have the characters first, or think I do. This time, I also knew the conflict back to front as I spent the time working up a synopsis and chapter outline before I started. Although, both the heroine and the story line have morphed into something new during the edit. The moral of this story is....no idea, but would love a way to make the process a little more streamlined.
I always start with characters. On a number of occasions, though, one of the minor characters has grown legs and run off with my story. I don't think that's right, somehow.
